Shatrughan Mahato lives in Bordih village, on the outskirts of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. Unlike the industrial city that surrounds the region, Shatrughan's world is rooted in agriculture. He depends on his land for everything - to feed his family, to earn his livelihood, and to maintain the life he has built season after season through patient, attentive farming.
When blurred vision began to affect him, its consequences were immediate and practical. Farming is visual work: reading the condition of soil, spotting the early signs of blight or pest damage on leaves, judging which fruit is ripe and which needs more time, navigating rows and furrows safely with tools in hand. For Shatrughan, blurred vision turned every one of these tasks into a struggle.
"He can now identify crops clearly, work longer hours, and manage farming activities more comfortably."
Care Netram's outreach reached Bordih and gave Shatrughan access to professional eye care he would otherwise have had to travel far to find - and might never have sought at all. His vision was tested properly, the prescription identified, and spectacles dispensed at the camp at an affordable price on the same day.
With correct glasses, the transformation in his daily work was clear. He could identify crops with precision again - a fundamental skill for any farmer. He found himself working longer hours without the fatigue and frustration that poor vision had caused. His ability to manage his fields - to observe, assess, and act on what he saw - was fully restored.
Shatrughan Mahato's story closes a circle of 17 lives touched by Care Netram - each one a reminder that clear vision is not a luxury. For a farmer in Bordih, it is the difference between a livelihood and losing it.
